Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei

Synopsis

One autumn night in mysterious ramen stands behind Shimogamo Temple, a lonely third-year student bumps into a man with an eggplant-shaped head who calls himself the god of marriage. Meeting this man caused students to reflect on their last two years in college - two years spent bitterly trying to break up a partner on campus with Ozu's only friend, a horrible-looking man who seemed to be trying to make his life as sad as possible. Deciding to take advantage of the rest of his campus life, students try to ask Akashi's junior classmates who are not friendly but kind, but fail to follow it up, encouraging him to regret not living his campus life differently. However, once this thought crossed his mind, he was thrown through space and time into the early years of college and given another opportunity to live his life.

Yojouhan Shinwa Taikei was surreal, artistic, and made an impression in his mind, telling about a young man's sadness on his journey to find friends, find love, and experience the vibrant campus life he always dreamed of.

Hint
~ Review: Tatami Galaxy ~.

Life will be nothing more than a matter of simple and simple choices, wherever our lives today are due to choices we made in the past, we made and we might make in the future, remembering all the words "Life" will only be an abbreviation of the number of choices we have made until now.

So...?

Have you ever thought about it? The choice you made, I mean, I'm pretty sure everyone has dedicated, at least a little of their time, to reflect on the choices we have made so far in our lives, important or ordinary, it's not important. The best times are when we are daydreaming during boring lessons in our class or when we are just a little lazy at our workplace, or if our personality is the type of "pensive" we already have room in our schedule to reflect on small events in our lives, besides from the personality types we have, I'm pretty sure we all ask ourselves the inevitable question "What if ..." right? .

"Maybe I should have sat next to the beautiful girl on the bus, but instead I decided to stand up."

For example, how could my life change because of that ordinary and perhaps insignificant event? It's impossible to know and for that, I ask myself now, "What if I sit with the girl?", A quick answer to that question can, even if it's a little creative, that I can talk to him a little during ridesharing, I can find that she is a wonderful girl and she thinks well of me, the next day she can book a chair for me and again we start talking, this can make me invite her to date, fall in love, get engaged and when I don't even pay attention, I marry a girl that. What triggered the event ?, "a stupid and ordinary choice when I was young" would be the answer to an older version of myself, or maybe, a more realistic view was that the girl got off the bus and that was the last time I had been seeing it, it would not be entirely wrong to say that we are the product of our choices, but not only, because also the people we meet have the power to change us significantly; You might ask "what does all this have to do with this review and anime?" for that I reply "enough everything", because "we are the product of our choice" is the main theme of the anime that I will now introduce to you, The Tatami Galaxy.

(Since our protagonist is not named, I will now refer to him, from now on, as "The Protagonist")

Throughout the development of the story, we can see how different the life of the Protagonist is based on the choices he has made and the people he has met during his first year at the University. The premise of this anime is to show us how different our lives are because of the choice, in terms of our protagonist, the choice of the Club to join. How is the choice to join a particular club considered something important, something that can change our lives completely? At first glance, I would say "very unlikely" but I could not be more wrong and for our protagonist who could not be more right. Cinema Club, Tennis Club?, Softball Club ?, English Club ?, No problem; all these shows are about The Protagonist's efforts to "red campus life" and what will happen well? well it's everyone's dream: to be popular, lots of funny friends and girlfriends but that is something that reveals to be a difficult goal especially to reach our shy and lucky protagonist not even by his side because someone is blocking him and the barrier is represented by the physical person, character another from this anime, Ozu. The relationship between Ozu and The Protagonist is a bit strange but I like it a lot, Ozu can be or your best friend or your worst enemy, depending on how you approach him, so through humans from the Protagonist club join us in an audience about what would happen in his life if he only join a different club in his first year.

The story of this anime is unique, it's very unique if I have to say it. We have to think of it as a puzzle, a puzzle with 11 parts (11 as an episode of this anime), so little by little we need to fill in the missing parts until it's finished, at that time we can really look at the extraordinary image that was created.

The first thing that surprised us was the characters, they are unique in their own way, all of which have characteristics that will make them created in our minds, from The Protagonist to the Fortune Teller (You will love the old baba!) Because they are made from simplicity but they so unique that you will have difficulty getting it out of your head (admit it if you want). First of all, we have The Protagonist, he is a first-year student, quite shy and easily manipulated by other characters from this show, especially Ozu, who failed to get his precious rose-colored life to assume his life was completely in vain. Ozu, the Protagonist usually describes his first meeting with him as "the first and the worst", he is a devil-like a little man but not only because of his behavior that is indeed evil ("He eats unhappiness of people with three servings of rice)" - Words Protagonist) but also because of his appearance, he is also our best friend and our only protagonist. Both of them are the most important characters in the show, I will not talk about each of them because Tatami Galaxy really offers great characters and most importantly, original and interesting characters, otherwise this review can be very long. Even though the story is about the protagonist, the other characters are no less important, I would say they are actually more important than him for development because our protagonist is a passive character; Remember? This anime is too far away to make us understand that not experiencing something is actually the experience itself, and we will not understand it until we finish this anime. The ending is something special; it gives overall meaning to this event. Comedy is also not left behind, this show also stands out because of the comedy scene, and each character will make you laugh in a different way, in its own way. The scene of Johnny, the appearance of the character, is very impressive.

This art is also quite special, even if you might find it strange at first glance, we get used to it quickly and maybe we ask ourselves "Why aren't there more shows like this?", The animation is Madhouse Studio, so we can count on animation an extraordinarily high level, the hallmark of this studio. OSTs are perfect for every scene, from the more "alive" to passive, but for one strange reason, we don't give them the proper attention. That's because the speed of light of the Protagonist monologue will take up most of our concentration, leaving the OST in the background, which is not always a bad thing. Both OP / ED are amazing too, I especially prefer the single OP.

Unless you can read very fast, you will not be able to ignore the Pause button, because The Protagonist usually speaks in a very fast way that sometimes we cannot read subtitles in time but that is not the only thing that disturbs us. during the anime's vision, there are also Protagonist monologues who are so meaningful and so well written that we really can feel the urgency to re-wet them, an action that I repeat many times. This is amazing but every single phrase spoken in this show has its own charm and meaning, Wikiquote will have many pages filled with our character phrases, and I'm not referring to the cliches we find everywhere, Tatami Galaxy is all original.

There are anime with meaning and morals, there are anime with funny characters, there are anime with extraordinary stories and unique fables, but I must say that the Tatami Galaxy was composed by all of them. I would recommend (personal experience) to rewatch this anime after some time, because it's incredible the number of details that can be answered the first time, after all, watching anime back for us dear let's appreciate the little things that we can miss the first time, and in the case of The Tatami Galaxy I'm sure you will be surprised.

I have declared myself as good as possible, I hope this review moves someone to watch this anime because it is very valuable. I will leave you, reader, to visualize all the things said in this review, do not hesitate and you will not regret, in this case, I have realized my main points for this. Reviews, if not, I'm sorry for not being able to send my feelings for this amazing anime to you because it's just my fault as a novice reviewer because of me.

However, thank you for taking the time to read it

Hint
I don't mean to be deep and certainly not straightforward, but it is true that small events can change the direction of your life whether you realize it or not and that is what Yojou-han Shinwa Taikei (or 4.5 Tatami Mat Galaxy) is all about. Of course, it's also about pleasing Johnny You, plowing balloons, engaging in fad war, being tricked by fortune tellers, joining a local forest guard, and eating cats and castella, but it's all trivial. Presented by the same person who brought you Mind Games, Cat Soup, and Kaiba, Masaaki Yuasa, brought you what I want to call his best work.

Story: 9/10
An anonymous protagonist, referred to as Watashi ('I') himself, has just entered college, and this story follows more or less his life and many of his misfortunes. Each episode begins with Watashi chasing something crazy or crazy - like "red campus life" or "black haired girl" and in each episode his friend Ozu manages to somehow mess things up. I say friend in the lightest sense of the term because Ozu is actually not anyone's friend. He is a punk traitor who only likes to terrorize people, and he always manages to infect Watashi in one way or another, usually ending up pushing him away from his goal. Along Watashi's journey across the Tatami Galaxy, you are introduced to many different people, and in every life, a different story is revealed. Every story has nothing to do except start the same way at first glance, but you will begin to notice a number of patterns, and finally lead you to one of the most impressive endings I have ever seen. If I mark the genre for this anime, I must first say it is a sliced comedy of life, then a mystery, but also a really great psychological anime. This is a very heavy dialogue, and the first three minutes of episode one has the most text I have ever seen in an anime. What is said can very easily lose track of what happened, but if you are at your feet then you shouldn't get lost too easily.

Art: 10/10
Yojou-han is presented by MadHouse, who is known for his diverse art styles and in the case of this anime can be defined as pretentious or noble. I want to call it last. This is non-traditional and unlike other existing anime, seriously. It's like Mononoke when Mononoke is new, can amaze people, or make people stay away. This is a very vibrant anime, and everything is very smooth - the movements look very beautiful. For those who faint, be on guard, Yojou-han Shinwa Taikei might not be an anime for you.

Votes: 9/10
Well, there's a song about form in the initial episode. That's like, very good. How many anime have songs about shapes? Unless it's Fullmetal Alchemist, Musical will come out anytime soon, I think it's about zero besides Yojou-han. The opening was extraordinary, and the Asian Kung-Fu Generation did a great job (This is called "Maigo Inu to Ame no Beat"). I believe this is their first opening for a non-shonen performance. The ending is very well positioned (you will see what I mean) and the first time you hear it, I promise I will shiver a little. The singer also sang the opening of Arakawa Under the Bridge, Etsuko Yakushimaru. The voice acting for each character is of course, awesome too. Watashi did most of the talking and I considered choosing his voice actor (Shintaro Asanuma) just because I liked to hear him speak. Background music is the only sound-wise disadvantage. There really isn't much to listen to, and even if there was, I might not pay attention, because between attending a dialogue and seeing art, it's quite difficult to manage the third element.

Character: 10/10
I have already explained who Watashi is, but let me tell you a little more. Watashi likes shortcuts and doesn't like working, and can almost be seen as lazy Ozu. Ozu is our antagonist most of the time. He is a rotten bastard who always misleads our poor Watashi, and usually profits from him. I called Watashi "lazy Ozu" some time ago because Watashi was not an innocent little bird, he was too lazy to do anything but his hobby. Akashi, who is rather romantic, is a girl who hates moths and is very cold to everyone around her. Kind of like Senjogahara (from Bakemonogatari), but easier to handle. He himself is quite funny, but all of his characters. We have fanatical Jougasaki, intoxicated Hanuki, and an English-speaking elder, Master Higuchi, who is an 8th-year graduate who plans to travel all over the world, and many others (like Watashi's Johnny (see Eden of the East)))). Character development is also very good. This anime is about a small robbery of Watashi's self-realization, so he gets the most character development, but I've never seen him do it well.

Fun: 10/10
Anime that can make its own macrocosm is an anime that can be taken lightly. It sets the stage with brilliant characters and visuals, brings funny moments throughout, and manages to convey many meaningful messages. Is there a perfect world? Will I be happier with more money and women? Will I be happier doing what people say I should do? Yes Very complicated. It's like a thought that provokes like Kaiba while carrying a Gintama comedy. I think it's safe to stop there.

Overall: 10/10
No fan service, no lolis, no Moe, no ultra violence, no regrets. It's smart without being arrogant, stupid without idiots, and attractive without being inappropriate.

In short, I think you should try it. This is only 11 episodes, and I think for the one season anime range, this is one of the best out there.

Destiny always hangs right in front of you, so why not reach out and pick up this anime?
